A Hevel on-grid solar power plant with the capacity of 210 kW has been set up on the rooftop of the Volley Grad Sports, Training, and Recreation Center in the town of Vityazevo, Anapa, Krasnodar Krai.
Krasnodar Krai is famous for its mild southern climate and bright sun—at 5.5 kWh/m2, the region has one of the highest insolation levels in Russia. High insolation allows PV modules to reach their full output. The southern sun creates an environment that is favorable not only for tourism and recreation but also for the development of solar power generation in the region. The infrastructure of the Volley Grad sports and recreation complex includes a hotel, a private beach, various sports facilities, restaurants, bars, and much more.
At the peak of the tourist season, Volley Grad is in very high demand among visitors. The load on the power grid significantly increases during this period, as do the costs accompanying it. In 2019, the management of the sports and recreation center made the decision to start utilizing innovative solar technologies, thereby reducing the consumption of electricity from the power grid.
Hevel Group developed a customized solution based on PV-modules of its own production and began the construction of ongrid solar power plants for the facilities of the Volley Grad sports and recreation complex in December 2019. The project included two rooftop solar power plants: one with the capacity of 166 kW (for supplying power to the gym), the other with the capacity of 43.7 kW (for the fitness center). The SPPs are based on Hevel's 60-cell heterojunction PV-modules. The project had an implementation period of four months. The two solar power plants with a total capacity of 210 kW were commissioned in March 2020.
According to Project Manager Pavel Agafonov, Volley Grad SPP is a large-scale project: the use of the MiniRail mounting system for attaching support structures to the roof allowed the ongrid solar power plants to utilize almost the entire area of the center's roofs. This technology offers a reliable way to mount structures on the roof and provides high resistance to wind load. At the same time, it requires very few through-holes in the roof for mounting support structures, which prevents it from causing roof leaks in the future.
The output of the solar power plants in their first three months of operation amounted to over 80,000 kWh, which allowed the center to make significant savings on the consumption of electricity from the ongrid.
